Live study rooms put strangers in a shared space. Here is how that space is kept usable, and what to do when it is not.
FocusArx study rooms run with cameras off by default, support in-room reporting, and are governed by an acceptable-use policy. Hosts are responsible for their rooms, reports are reviewed by moderators, and serious or repeated violations lead to removal from rooms or account suspension.
Cameras are off by default and are never required. Chat is text-based and rate-limited. Rooms are focused on a synchronised timer, which keeps the interaction narrow by design.
Every room has a report action. Reports go to moderators with enough context to act on — room, timestamp, reported content — and nothing more than that.
Moderators can remove a participant from a room, mute them, or escalate to account-level action. Harassment, sexual content, hate, threats and any content involving minors are treated as immediate escalations, not warnings.
Study rooms are intended for learners, and many are students. Camera-free defaults, text-only chat and no direct-messaging requirement from rooms are deliberate choices to keep the surface narrow. If you are a parent, guardian or educator with concerns, contact us directly.
A host sets the room's timer and tone. Hosts are expected to keep the room on-task, act on reports inside their room, and stop a room rather than let it degrade. Repeated failure to moderate leads to losing host access.
