The pattern, precisely
Four papers across two days: Mathematics or Accountancy, then Physics and Chemistry combined in one paper on day one; Biology, then English on day two. Each paper is 60 questions for 60 marks in 80 minutes, answered on OMR, and none of them carries negative marking. The Physics-Chemistry paper is split 30 and 30. Not every candidate sits all four — which papers you take depends on the stream you are applying for. How the rank is calculated
KEA builds separate ranks per stream from the papers relevant to it: engineering uses Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, while agriculture, veterinary and pharmacy streams use different combinations, and Biology carries weight where it is required. Marks in Class 12 (or the equivalent qualifying exam) feed the final merit for many courses, so KCET is not a standalone number. The practical consequence: your weakest relevant subject costs you twice — once in the paper and once in the board-weighted merit.
